Annie Oakley (1860–1926) was an American sharpshooter and frontier legend. Born Phoebe Ann Mosey in rural Ohio, she rose from poverty by hunting game to support her family. After famously beating competitive marksman Frank Butler in an 1875 match, she married him and skyrocketed to international fame as a headliner in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show.
